Looking for a new vehicle, we have a tendency to focus on what’s right in front of us. For instance, when considering the upcoming 2018 VolkswagenTiguan, you might find yourself enchanted by its classy profile, wraparound headlights and unmistakable front grille adorned with that time-honored and stately VW badge—and no one would fault you for that.
With any Volkswagen, there’s much more than meets the eye. For the upcoming Tiguan, it’s a brand-new warranty. VW has recently announced that both the upcoming 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan and the upcoming 2018 VolkswagenAtlas will come with an unbelievable 6-year, 72,000-mile warranty.
The warranty includes what is called “bumper to bumper” coverage. That means that the warranty covers any major issues that may arise while the warranty is in effect. This includes engine and transmission coverage as well as work to the all-wheel drive systems. A warranty as nice as this one effectively reduces cost of ownership. In a sense, it means a lower sticker price because over the years, owners won’t have to bear the cost of repairs.
As if that wasn’t alluring enough, Volkswagen has made the new warranty fully transferable. With one fell swoop, the automaker measurably increased the resale value of the both the Tiguan and Atlas.
The new 6-year, 72,000-mile warranty from Volkswagen leaves most competitor’s offers in the dust. The industry standard is half of that with a 3-year, 36,000-mile warranty typical of most mass-market vehicles. Also, other automakers’ policies on transferability are not quite as friendly as VW’s new warranty offer.
Discerning buyers will note that a 3-year, 36,000-mile warranty is what is currently offered for Volkswagen passenger cars. However, if the new warranty proves popular—as it is sure to do—then there’s talk that Volkswagen will make the new warranty available across their lineup.
